Shooter & Hellride!

I had a busy night last Thursday 3/25/10. First, I went to the Grammy Museum for "The Drop"...this time it was Black Ribbons- the new album from Shooter Jennings. "The Drop" features musicians discussing their latest albums in front of an intimate audience of 200 in the Museum's Sound Stage. Shooter was joined by producer Dave Cobb and the discussion was moderated by Grammy Foundation and MusiCares Vice President Scott Goldman.

They spoke about inspiration for the album, the writing process and how Stephen King came to be involved in the project. A few tracks from the album were played over the PA and Shooter also played a few on the sound stage's piano. Afterwards, they took questions from the audience and signed copies of Black Ribbons. I was already a fan of the album or else I wouldn't have gone...but I appreciate it even more now. Check it out if you haven't already!

Next up, I headed over to the Air Conditioned Supper Club in Venice to see Hellride play. They were going on around midnight and luckily traffic cooperated so I didn't miss anything. Mike Watt, Peter DiStefano and Stephen Perkins melted everyone's faces off with blistering Stooges covers and a Porno For Pyros song for the encore. I filmed the whole show and all 12 songs are up on my youtube channel. HERE

Salton Sea

I took a road trip to the Salton Sea on Marsh 20, 2010. Ever since seeing "Into the Wild", I've been wanting to check out Slab City and the surrounding area. I had the pleasure of meeting the creator of Salvation Mountain, Leonard Knight:
