I attended the public memorial for Ronnie James Dio at Forest Lawn yesterday. The turnout was great- so great that when I arrived a little before noon (2 hours early), all of the wristbands to sit inside the Hall of Liberty had been dispersed. I found a seat outside and was able to see everything on the big screen that had been set up for us. For over three hours, friends and family spoke about Ronnie, his music and his impact on them and the world. It was very touching. Eddie Trunk did as fantastic job as the host/emcee.

From the press release:
"“SILVER LAKE HOSTS A NEW FESTIVAL THAT IS ALL ABOUT MUSIC, ART
AND BEING ECO-FRIENDLY”
(Los Angeles) - Silver Lake is known for its deep-rooted indie rock culture, its eclectic bars and nightlife and generally hip and laid-back lifestyle. What is less known is how Silver Lake, East Hollywood, Echo Park, Los Feliz and surrounding communities are transforming Los Angeles into a music, arts, culture and food destination. These neighborhoods are home to some of LA’s best restaurants, trend-defining music acts, accomplished writers, artists, gallerists and performers. Silver Lake Jubilee aims to bring together all the eclectic and vibrant cultural enclaves of these neighborhoods into a two-day music and arts street festival, held May 22 and 23, 2010.
Festival-goers can expect over 20 musical acts (both local and national), comedy, theatre performances, poetry readings and live performances by LA-based groups. For foodies there will be over 40 food vendors highlighting the best of Silver Lake/Los Angeles cuisine. For those looking for something unique, there will be over 60 merchandise vendors selling hand-crafted, unique and locally-sourced goods. The festival also includes an interactive children’s village, arts village, literary village and eco village.
For lineup and detailed event information, visit the official festival website at: www.silverlakejubilee.com"

Taintstick 5-15-10 @ the Roxy- Music, comedy and gimp!
I'd never seen Taintstick so I went not knowing what to expect...hadn't heard much expect they were part rock, part comedy. It seemed like the vast majority of the crowd not only had seen them, but were devotees and got all of the inside jokes. As a newbie I loved most of it, was horrified by some (electrocution neckbands part was hard to watch...though the gimp abuse didn't bother me, go figure- lol), but overall thoroughly enjoyed it! Special musical guests were: Everlast, Scott Russo, Blasko and Tommy Clufetos. It was a fun night at one of my favorite venues in LA- The Roxy.

Jane's Addiction @ Bardot 5-5-10
Jane's Addiction played a "shorty" (as Perry put it) set at Bardot in Hollywood, CA for El Cinco de Mayo on 5-5-10. The club was packed for the show, which was Duff Mckagan's first show with Jane's Addiction.
I took a few photos between songs, but mostly did video.
Setlist:
Stop
Mountain Song
Had a Dad
Soulmate [new song]
Whores
Pigs in Zen
Ain't No Right
Ocean Size
